19th Century Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Rooster Figurine
An impressive and vibrantly decorated 19th Century Chinese export porcelain model of a rooster, dating from the late Qing Dynasty. Standing an imposing 18 inches tall, this striking sculpture is traditionally hand-crafted using press-molded construction, featuring a hollow interior and an authentic firing vent hole on the lower flank.
The cockerel is beautifully rendered with its head turned in a classic lifelike pose. Its plumage is meticulously detailed with hand-painted, raised overglaze enamels in a vibrant Famille Rose palette of pastel pinks, greens, yellows, and iron-red tones. The bird is modeled standing atop a pierced rockwork base adorned with traditional auspicious symbols from the Babao (Eight Precious Things), including the ribboned Artemisia leaf and lotus blooms.
This large-scale piece exhibits honest handling wear consistent with its significant age, displaying natural thinning to the high-relief glaze points that enhances its antique character. An exceptional, hand-decorated statement piece, it offers incredible visual presence for any discerning collector of fine Asian art or classic Chinoiserie decor.
